Current FIAF Thematic Commission celebrates its first year of activities
On April 10, 2012, the current team of the FIAF Thematic Commission celebrates its first year of activities.
During this period, it was possible to maintain a fruitful activity of promotion of thematic philately, with emphasis on two regional thematic exhibitions which became viable, both with the auspices of the Continental Federation: the International Exhibition of Thematic Philately "Uruguay 2011" (promoted by the Uruguayan Federation of Philately, with the support of the Philatelic Club of Uruguay and sponsored by “Correo de Uruguay”, in September 2011) and the International Exhibition of Thematic Philately "Ituzaingó 2012 Mercosur" (organized by the Argentinean Federation of Philatelic Entities, with the support of the Philatelic and Numismatic Center Ituzaingó and sponsorship of the “Correo Argentino”, to be held next month).
On the other hand, our monthly page News and information already has a significant number of regular visitors from different countries, as well as the various thematic documents published on our website have been visited by many people, with an average of 500 accesses in the past two months. Most of the visits, according to the data of the “flag counter", come from Chile, Brazil, Argentina, United States, Spain and Mexico.

On the other hand, and understandably, it is in the first week of each month that we have the largest number of visits.
Finally, worthy of mention is the fact that our Commission is that one in FIAF that has, at the time, greater representation of national delegates, which have interacted in the development of thematic philately in their respective countries and also in our continent. Congratulations to all.
Jonas Hällström, future President of the FIP Thematic Commission
As it was already posted in this informative column, the new leaders of the FIP Thematic Commission will be elected in the next meeting of that Commission, scheduled for June 21, 2012, at the Jakarta Convention Center (where the 2012 Indonesia 2012 will be held).
The edition of TC News that is to be published on these days will bring the official list of candidates for the various posts of the Bureau of this Commission: President, Secretary, and three ordinary members, each one representing their respective continental federations (FIAF, FEPA or FIAP).
From what we know, there was only the candidature of Jonas Hällström (Sweden) for the post of President, in such a way that, within little more than two months, he will be the new President of the FIP/TC, succeeding Damian Läge, who has done excellent work over the past eight years.

Jonas Hällstrom is 40 years old, being a FIP Thematic Juror and also Team Leader. Though young, he has played important roles in several philatelic organizations, with a great contribution to the development of Philately. He has two awarded thematic exhibits (The History of the Square-rigged Sailing Vessels” and “Manoeuvre Warfare - glanced through the theories about the Nature of War). For those people interested in knowing more about the activities carried out by our future President, his philatelic curriculum is available at http://www.fipthematicphilately.org/
Jonas will have as Secretary the Belgian Koenraad Bracke, aged 53, who also postulates such place as the only candidate. Mr. Bracke philatelic curriculum is also published on the same website of the FIP Thematic Commission.
By the way, according to what has been published on the FIP website, Jonas Hällström is the person who will present the Thematic Seminar to take place in Jakarta during Indonesia 2012.

The General Commissioner of the International Exhibition of Thematic Philately "Ituzaingó 2012 Mercosur", Claudio Daniel Mujica, informs us that Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay confirmed participation in this regional exhibition. The Chilean delegate Ricardo Boizard sends us two interesting texts (La Filatelia Temática se ha puesto de pie and La Filatelia Temática en Chile), commenting on how thematic philately has been consolidated in different parts, making also a discussion on the state of the art of this form of philatelic collecting in Chile.
The author refers the steps that are being taken in his country since 2004, when an exhibition of 240 frames, exclusively devoted to thematic exhibiting, was held in Santiago. Furthermore, he points out that currently the work of diffusion of thematic philately is advancing in that Andean country.
José Raúl Lorenzo Sánchez, President of the Cuban Philatelic Federation, tells us that it is scheduled, for the month of September of the current year, a National Thematic Exhibition in Cienfuegos

This exhibition is being organized with the participation of our colleague Fernando Fabregas Rodríguez, Chairman of the FFC Thematic Commission and also national delegate in our Commission.
Iván Zelaya, from El Salvador, expresses interest in receiving didactic texts (articles, publications, manuals, etc.) on Thematic Philately, with the purpose of disseminating them to the thematic collectors from that country through the websites of the Salvadoran Philatelic Association and the Philatelic Society of El Salvador.
So, people who wish to collaborate with the Salvadoran thematic philatelists may come into contact with the delegate Iván Zelaya or directly with the SFES (sfes-aces@elsalvadorphilately.org).
Juan Pablo Aguilar, from Ecuador, continues reporting, periodically, on the blog of the AFE, interesting articles of interest to thematic philatelists.

Our colleague Paco Gilabert, delegate of Spain, send us information about the exhibition 100 Years of Scouting in Spain, to be held from 4 to May 10, 2012 in the Exhibition Hall of the Communications Palace (“Oficina Principal de Correos”) in Madrid. This is an event of great interest to the admirers of Scouting, philatelists or not, which will be marked by the issue of a special commemorative cancellation. The poster allusive to this event is published below.
